Our mission

Was to make an installation in Ellen Melville Centre focusing on Te Reo Maori.  It was a group of three, I was the motion designer. Our idea was to focus on the phases of the moon. A circle that has a never-ending journey, just like the experience of learning Te Reo Maori. Space is gently lit according to the phase of the moon at that point of the journey, and have a nighttime soundscape playing in the background to create an intensely immersive experience. The aim is to create a space where people can come without feeling judged or excluded, and where people are encouraged to learn and share with others.
My visual direction for this 8-week group project was to keep it simple and easy to follow. I decided to create a hand-drawn effect to capture people attention.

A Moonlit Journey (1 week-long event Introduction to Maramataka)
 
 
Everything in this video I have made by myself (except for the audio). 

What did I do to make this video (promotional video)
  • I had to write the script in both English and Te Reo Maori 
  • I had to film myself making the moon (with the help of my mum)
  • I had to rotoscope the whole 30-second video using two different colours
  • I had to make sure the music chose is right and it matches the movement of my video
  • It was my suggestion to the group to have the Te Reo Maori in yellow because that is what I want people to see first and be curious.

I was the creator of the promotional video, Instagram videos and the wayfinding for the direction inside the Marama Installation.
